AARP Pennsylvania State Director Fred Griesbach today asked U.S. Senator Arlen Specter to keep his promise to seniors by rejecting a House Conference agreement on the 2006 Budget Reconciliation Package that would cut the budget for the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs.
<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Pennsylvania s 1.8 million AARP members strongly oppose the budget reconciliation conference agreement scheduled to come before the Senate for a vote today, Griesbach said. This proposal dramatically undermines critical protections built into both the Medicaid and Medicare programs.

Instead of asking for shared sacrifice to achieve budgetary savings, this agreement hands an early Christmas gift to the pharmaceutical and managed care industries at the expense of seniors and others who depend of these vital government programs, he added.
If this conference agreement becomes law, our members will work tirelessly to hold officials accountable for passing such irresponsible policy, Griesbach said. Senator Specter s actions on this issue will show whether he represents big business or the people who elected him.
